That's exactly how I see the auction, Mike. It was, after all to raise funds for ABS.
What are the funds for, general expenses? Is there some kind of promotional bamboo board that oversees ad campaigns to spread the word of bamboo, the timber grass?
The funds are primarily used for research grants like Jimmy Triplett's research on the native North American bamboos and funding BOTA.
There are funds available to research using bamboo for erosion control that is still looking for a researcher.
If anyone is in contact with a research university that wants to work with bamboo they can send in a grant request to the ABS.
Seeing if bamboo will grow in your back yard is not what the money is for

I should contact the kleckner institute of agriculture and see if they are interested in research.
SHITech (South Houston Institute of Technology) and STFU (Southern Tampania de la Floridana Universidad), a few years ago, did some collaborative bamboo research on Bambusa oldhamii and I seem to remember doing some field data collection gathering techniques on the issues of Bambusa tuldoides and its relationship or not to Bambusa ventricosa.

Oops! Sorry, I left out the founder of SHITech: Steve Carter.
Of course I feel sure you know who is the founder and President of STFU.

Location: Harlingen, TX Zone 10, Sunset Zone 27. 33' above sea level. 27 inches of rain/year. 22 Miles to the Laguna Madre. 27 miles to the Gulf of Mexico. 17 miles from Mexico. Lower Rio Grande Valley - Deep South Texas
Steve Carter's SHITech was the location for the first ever Boonut Tour in Texas.
Steve stays pretty busy. Perhaps shoveling... I mean researching for SHITech.
Where are ya' STEVE!!! Steve really has some nice bamboo. The only problem at his place is I think we will eventually lose him... never to be found in the bamboo jungle.
If you are ever in the Houston area, you want to contact Steve Carter for a tour... and a burger. His wife makes great burgers.
cadyg wrote:Sounds great -- like some serious research is being done there. Especially the burgers.
I did a .pdf file, with pictures and methods used, documenting our research posted at the old Florida Boo Forum, but now that site is shut down I have no place to park the file so people who want to download it can do so.

The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.
Are you talking 'bout the debate over Bambusa oldham being different in FL, CA, TX?
Correctamundo!
It had to do with:
Bambusa oldhamii "Floridana",
Bambusa oldhamii "Californus",
and Bambusa oldhamii "Longhornus".

Where did that quote come from?
A PM from one of the members who wanted to be a member, but never posts. You remember, the same ones that some people wanted to boot off of the Bambooweb Forum because they never post to the forum.

I don't recall that. Must have not been me. Bill tries to not give me too much power on bambooweb.info because the forum would become a beautiful disaster.
