I will be loading a spell checker today and hopefully I will have the bamboo name database set up by the end of the day.

I seem to have a mandatory spell check, which doesn't work with my browser, which means I have to change words to fit the spell checker (if I misspell something, I meant to!) (OK, I can't type).

Is there something wrong with my settings that it automatically spellchecks? I'm all for having a button for spellcheck, but forced spell checking is just wrong!!

To turn off auto spell checking go into your profile and click No where it says "Always check Spelling before posting"

Thanks, Bill.

I'm just asking to be picked on when I misspell things, aren't I?

Baa,

Now there is not excuse for someone to misspell Bashania quingchengshanensis.
Unfortunately, I see that even though the bamboo names are in the database for this site. They do not show up in the spelling suggestion box
I might have to try the other spell checker that I have.

Ah, the power to dictate how bamboo specie names are spelt. (Just a test to see how it liked spelt, it didn't. I guess I have to give up my archaic English.)

Bill - Thanks for adding the spell checker.

Mike near Brenham TX

PS If we hit "add," does it add that word for everyone or just that user?

'Add' adds the word to your personal dictionary. It does require you to register with SpellingCow and then login.

You can see your personal dictionary by clicking on the 'Option' button in the spell checker.

Yes!!!

I started to lodge a similar complaint with a boast about the general quality of my spelling and the "forced" spell checking made me aware that I had 2 misspellings in my post, so I backed away. :blackeye:

I think the thing that got me was I first discovered the addition of the cow on a somewhat technical post with multiple species name and specialty botanical terms, so if we can get it to recognize species and genera that should be a big improvement and prevent the automatic accept, accept, accepting that I tend to resort to after being snagged on a legitimate phrase or two with programs like these.

I've really begun counting on it, now.
