New posts not marked as "read"

Sometimes when I add a post, that forum is flagged as having a new, unread message, and I can't seem to get it to clear -- I have to use the "mark forum read" link.
Anybody else having this problem? I wonder if it's something specific I'm doing. Perhaps I'll experiment in the "test" forum a little.
