phpBB V3

Post by bambooweb »

Thanks to Sven, I have looked at the new version of the Forum Software and one major change that they made was to remove the ability to use HTML in a post. So all of the photos displayed with <img src code will not show when the site is updated.
There is so much that will have to be changed to get the new version to work do not expect it before December. (Which December I am not saying) Hopefully by then there will be a spelling checker available.

Sorry Bill! ;D

I've got a little PHP 4/mySQL web background and scripting history (though it's been a couple years since I've been serious with it). If there is any small jobs you could use some help with let me know...

OH, and on the disallowing of HTML in posts, that may be different than things have worked in the past, but I can't really see there explanation of it listed anywhere on their site. For adding an image in the post, you aren't using HTML if you use there buttons. You're just defining that the http address you list is an image with [img]...[/img], and then the systems parser replaces that with the necessary html code when it renders it looks like.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like losing the ability to have images in your posts would be detrimental (unless the admin wishes to enforce such a policy). Maybe it's also in response to images being able to crash you and install viruses if you are using an older unpatched windows OS, I don't know.

Ah, I guess they call that BBCode vs HTML. Here is a page from their documentation (doesn't say which version it refers to), so I think they just disallow someone from trying to do evil things using HTML redirects, vs the BBCode we are used to (for images, bolding, coloring, quoting):

[img]...[/img] will still work but <img...> will stop working. They changed the code that converts the BBCode into HTML so I will have to find that to put in the image resizing code. They now have an option to resize photos but only a fixed size and they would be the same for all users.

One nice addition is the ability to add attachments to a post.
