Google Maps Bamboo Icon

Post by bambooweb »

Could someone help create a small PNG image for a bamboo icon to put on a google map? The icon should be about 24x24 pixels with a transparent background. You also get extra credit for a shadow image of the icon that is cast to the upper right like google's pins. :)

I have been working on using the google map API to show locations where people are growing bamboo with Location and growth data.

I plan on having something to show on this on the test site after the first of the year and I will start adding the new pages to this site after I get it moved to the new host.

Thanks,
Bill

I'm going to put Boonut on it. He's good at those kind of things.

I am in Kentucky at the moment, but will get right on it as soon as I get back in town to my own software. I like challenges.

Here is the logo I created for Sherry...

Here is one I created for Jim Rehor...

I found a website that creates shadows for google icons.

Allen,
I am sure what you come up with would be better than what I did. :D

Wow... 24 x 24 sure is small to come up with very much detail...

It doesn't look like png files can be seen on this forum... but, here is a link:

Again, not much you can do without coming up with something you can't identify... so I kept it simple. Use it if you like... or dump it.

I have software that can make the shadows, png files with transparency etc.. so let me know if there are any other thoughts...

Something just isn't quite right about the icon. It is hard to see and the shadow is invisible on the map. Perhaps if the shadow were darker or if the pixels in the shadow alternated black/transparent.

Here is another attempt... two culms... a little darker... and a little more transparency in the shadow.

Allen,
Thanks for the pins. :D Could you do one with a group of bamboos? The Icon could be a little wider (say 36 pixels).

The purpose of that pin would be to show one pin for a cluster of locations if the user is not zoomed in close enough to separate the locations. With that we can scale up from a maximum of 100 locations to about 100,000. After we get over 100,000 locations hopefully Google will have moved to faster servers.

Would it need to be 24 pixels x 36 pixels? Do you want it to look any different other than more culms?
