would be nice if we could get an area, possibly in the profile?, where we could post a list of the types we have. (and a "want" list too)

Yes, that does sound like an interesting idea. I'm always wondering what bamboo is in everyone's collections.

Following your suggestion, I'm putting a link to my list in the "signature" box. I tried putting the link in the profile box but the link was not live/clickable. I'll see how this works.

I've looked at the link and I'm not quite sure whether or not it looks like an advertisement or sales pitch. It's the easiest thing for me to put up because this is what I email to people when they ask for a list of the bamboos that I propagate. Opinions from anyone?

I also have a link under my name, the one with iowaboo in it. It lists what bamboo I have so far and what year I planted them. Also, I have a couple other links such as growth data(which will further expand once I get I few years growing experience) and also a link listing coldest temperatures for the last few years.
Roy, looks great. Just too bad that I can't grow a 50ft clumper in iowa. I don't even know if any runners will do that well. But I guess I'll try. 8)

Roy,
I have no problems with your list, except I'd rather it not be a .pdf (Takes forever to open). If you have the list in microsoft word, you should be able to convert it to .html and post it somewhere. If you're stuck, send me the original in whatever text editor it's in and I'll convert it for you and send you the file.

Iowa,
Or should I call you money-bags! That's an impressive list for 2006. Good thing you started clearing early.

.

And here I thought at 72K .pdf it would be the easiest to load. I guess that's not right. I have a cable modem so loading is no problem.

The original file is in a spreadsheet. I'll work on it this weekend and see what I can come up with.

Rfgpitt,

Check the html out and see how it works on your end. This is my first attempt at trying to follow your suggestion on the html option. (It does load about 1.5 seconds faster on my end, but it also is a shorter (by one sheet) version than the pdf document) The list in not totally complete and of course, as a Mac person, I will need to add some color and put some grapics in there somewhere for a little eye candy.

File size

Post by bambooweb »

Roy,
The html file looks good.

The time delay for pdf files on my machine is the time it takes to start the Adobe reader. Since a browser is already running the html file comes up faster.

Bill,

That's good to know. The hardiest part it trying to figure which is best for the end viewer. The way I usually read .pdf doucuments is through a browser. If the scrowling with the browser is too slow or if I want to copy something or change something in the file, then I download it and open up Adobe Acrobat. Now the program Adobe Acrobat does take some time to load or open up.

I'll spend some time working on some eye appeal for the file and a few other things I would like to experiment with on the file.

Roy,

I'm on a fast cable connection, but it is the opening of adobe that is slow. Sorry, should have been more specific. Probably a lot slower for people with older machines and dial-up.

nice work,

Rick,

Your response has turned out to be a learning experience for me. I've got a few things I want to try on the htm file. Already learned some things I didn't know already. It's exciting for me to learn something new. And they say old dogs can't learn new tricks!

Count me in that group. Also, add my monitor which the screen keeps getting smaller. STupid Black sidebars on it. :x
