I thnk my Bissett is on its last legs - help

Post by mluther »

We planted 12 bissetti in long containers 3 years ago to create a screen. Rampant growth year one. Has slowly tailed off to only one new thin culm this year. Brown canes and leaves. Generally looks very weak. Have fed and watered. Do I remove old canes. Do I treat for possible spider mite and or aphids - how do I do this? General care help would be much appreciated.

This is my guess, but if you go to growing bamboo forum and look at Alan Ls' comment on the planting of the two types in planters; there is not enough room for the rhizomes. Alan has more experience than me but when I saw the size of those planters I figured it has to be their size. If they are three years old, I would transplant most out of the planters, and I bet they would be happy.

Is it possibly too wet/not draining well?

What are the inside dimensions of that planter?

After three years, you may do well to either transfer the plants to a bigger planter or divide the plants.
