mite war update

Post by Alan »

i always have to deal with these bugs because of a neighbor's untreated groves (btw it's the reason I sincerely hope the nigra flowers and dies soon). after two winters with a two plus night dry cold snap in the teens i haven't had to deal with mites for some time, but now that the weather has been consistently warm and dry for a few weeks they are back and moving into groves of aureosulcata aureocaulis, gold vivax and robert young. these plants all have been consistently treated with the bayer granules with the merit. i think this had prevented infestations when the weather was cool but it has failed in the warm & dry, although the infestations are small and i can prune most of it out.

taking a look again today at the test moso & dulcis there are a couple of small colonies but not a lot. i found one small web on the edge of a moso leaf and one small web at the spine of a dulcis leaf. that's it. i conclude mite resistant but not mite proof.
