Big mealybug problem

Post by Oldhamii »

Used alcohol spray to control when the culms had just emerged. Thought that I had gotten ahead of it, but now they are 20 ft in the air and the mealy bug must have thrived on the alcohol which I had been told was safe and would do the job. (No, I didn't drink it. It was rubbing alcohol.) Cannot spray. should I pray? The neighbor has a dog and I do not want to spray anything that might hurt the dog....Anyone know whether the systemic will clear up this infestation?
Is there any other way (short of cutting them down) to control this one?

It varies State by State what you can get, but I believe that in all the States you can get Bayer Advanced(TM) Tree & Shrub Insect Control. Just follow the directions.

Roy, thanks for the note. Any non pesticide approach that you would recommend?

The only alternative is to just tolerate it. There are other methods I've seen people mention, but I haven't read where they were effective long term.

I got rid of my mealy bug problem a year or so ago. The strange thing is the B. Lako in my front yard is showing signs of infestation again after the hurricane. Any ideas?

Sorry 'bout that....it was unnecessary.

I hate mealybugs and have no permanent solution.

Use the same "solution" you used "a year or so ago". :D
