Though color coordinated, Xmas morning was wet not white
A relatively dry Dec still ended the year with 97”

revisiting those summer/fall shoots which look cold and unacclimated beside the older culms in early winter

Wow, I'm glad this is what I chose to start with for a Fargesia, you have an absolutely beautiful plant there. I can't want till mine is half that size. Your pics are great, but even they just don't do the colors justice when you see them in person. My freshly planted one just pops in the morning sun.

Will be interesting to see how yours progresses, in the OP you can see mine 4 years ago in a 3 gal pot.

With the temps here there really hasn't been setbacks from winter, my dangerous time is now with the new shoots just clearing the dense foliage and last years shoots whipping around like stray weed eaters, last year 2/3's of the new shoots snapped.

mellower moods dominate our dry summers

yesterday,
lurid gleam of culms and sheaths after a long period of steady rain

same culms today,
the rain lifted and the dry sheaths reach out once more
