Who else has let their running bamboo go free range?

I have running in the front and back yard. Both thickets are maybe 6 or 7 years old, hard to say. The first few years I was using the mulch trench method and cutting the rhyzomes every spring. Eventually I gave up and now every spring I simply spend a few weeks picking the shoots and let the rhyzomes go as far as I like. I even let one or two shoots that are furthest from the thicket to grow for awhile as a novelty each year. Surprising this laissez-faire approach is working out well.

Me! But I am running out of space.

I have a couple of friends who live out in the country so I am starting to plant them on their land.    . That' what friends are for right?

Most of mine is "free range", only a few places on property are protected by barrier. Your approach will work as long as you stay on top of it. If you ever decide to "reclaim" an area, it is not difficult, but does require machinery.
