Mail Order Bamboo

Post by Ophiuchus »

I remember seeing someone post a pic of the Boo they received by mail order. I think it was bare root. I was wondering how the transition went.

Anyone else have an experience of bare root mail order you can share?

Thanks :D

I think most of the bamboo i have had shipped came potted. But some have had success shipping rhizomes bare root. Any bare root plants that are going to live are usually packed in wet wood shavings and carefully wrapped in plastic, or similar. If they dry out, the plant will not make it.

Your probably better off buying from a place that ships it potted.

I bought a black bamboo (Lako) on a whim @3 years ago because it was so cheap: like $20 shipped. As I recall there were 3 culms and it was @3ft tall; arrived in a small pot. I stuck it in the ground in the same area as my much larger Lako. Three years later, the culms are an inch thick and 15'-18' tall.

I have bought online from Tropical Bamboo in Loxahatchee FL and if I remember it was bare root and they all did well. It's been 5,6,7 or so years.
