Iv'e been AWOL for awhile here, so much work and so little time. Had to do a lot of cleanup after a heavy unseasonal snow and had to do a double take. Discovered this a few days ago, B.Castillon flowering like crazy. This could have been going on for a month or more, I haven't been able to get out in the bamboo much due to weather. I'll be watching it close now, hopefully the seeds are good and the grove survives. If the seeds are good I will be sharing. The pics are just a few small branches.

Very interesting, are all the culms flowering? Was the plant unusually stressed?
Perhaps some of you may know, do variations like 'Castillon' have different flowering cycles than the regular Bambusoides? According to the book Farming Bamboo Phyllostachys Bambusoides (page 132) flowered in the late 60's and into the 70s' and should not flower again until 60-120 years from then.
That would make it 2027 at the earliest if accurate.

It looks like the whole grove is flowering and many of the leaves are yellowing. The grove was probably flowering before the snow. I checked the B. Madake grove near it and it's ok

My one B Castillon up here near Tacoma Washington is absolutely covered in flowers, or the grass equivalent thereof. Should anyone show interest, I will be happy to post some pictures
