I live in Washington state and some of my Pyhllostachys nigra ‘Henon’ that I planted about 9 years ago started flowering the past summer. Could this be due to lack of water? Can anyone lead me to articles as to why this happens to Pyhllostachys nigra ‘Henon’? I'm new to this forum and not sure how to add an image...

Most bamboos flower due to somewhat mysterious inner clock, and they flower gregariously. So If we both have the same variety and cultivar of the a given type, they will both flower more of less at the same time, even if we are not in same place.

Sometimes a grove will put up a few blooms somewhat randomly, perhaps related to stress, but not a full flowering event.

I have not heard that Henon has gone to flower, but I don't get out much. My Henon has not flowered that I've noticed, but my grove got severely set back by a hard freeze a few years ago, and is not yet back to mature form.
