Hi everyone, I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Sven living in Cheshire in the north west of the united kingdom. I'm an avid plant geek and am growing a few bamboos at the moment. Fargesia demissa 'Gerry' is probably my favourite. I'm also in the process of readying the ground for a Chusquea gigantea which I'm hoping to grow into a substantial grove.

I live in a pretty exposed windy place on top of a hill with fairly high annual rainfall, but quite temperate conditions - cool summers and not too cold winters. Its not ideal for most bamboos but I love experimenting and I'm gradually building up a pretty decent shelterbelt so that I can successfully grow some of the more tender plants that I love.

I hope to learn much and possibly advise with my limited experience of bamboos. Pleased to meet you all

Hi, I planted 'Gerry" in my garden this years and a second flush of culms are beginning to leaf out now. I posted a pic in the photo sections of this site after planting.
