Website for mapping bamboo groves

Post by mshaffer »

I was thinking of making a webpage where people could post locations of bamboo groves. It would just be a map where anyone can add groves they know of in their area. Do you think that would be useful?

I think it would be a nice thing to have under the following condition:

The bamboo locations are all open to the public and this has been checked.

You do not want people visiting private locations to 'harvest' bamboo shoots and culms, live out their unwarranted extermination fantasies etc.

I also fear, that there could be some people that would use this app/site to get free bamboo poles and unlimited supply of shoots. I was thinking about the same thing a while ago. How great that would be, to go and see nearby groves. Then I thought about people that do not share my bamboo 'addiction'. I'm not sure if it's worth the risk.

I know Batshit Crazy in Connecticut was collecting locations and posting unrelated pictures to an invasive plants website so she could reference them as "proof" of whatever bamboo conspiracy she was pushing at the moment.

The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.
