John Nelson at Bamboo Texas says they no longer propagate Bambusa beecheyana due to the Mosaic Potex Virus. From my limited reading about the virus, I got the impression that if one plant of that species was infected, then because most plants are vegetative clones of eachother, then all other plants of that species are infected as well.
Is this the case or might other retailers' B. beecheyana not be infected?
Does anyone know of a substitute clumper for B. beecheyana that is similarly fast growing, and similar in size?

Absolutely. And more cold hardy. And more erect. And I consider it to be a superior bamboo to B. beechy. And available in your area.
Bambusa oldhamii
