Has anyone experienced this before?

I have some newly planted R.Y. that a few shoots come up. One of the shoots has some very unique color that I have not seen experienced before.

What could possibly cause this and is it possible for this to be some morph?

Greetings, for this website you'll need to use a syntax for photos something like:

I'm not sure how to fix the size issue - anyone?

Is that the photo that Needmore posted?
If so, that's really strange and different.
Or, is it just a similar effect to how Spectabilis reddens up in bright sun exposures?
Don't grow RY myself....

Sorta.

That is what I was thinking about the reddening and the similarity to Spectabilis.

R Young generally comes up green and turns yellow over time so I don't think it is normally prone to the early burgundy phase?

Great. New and unusual is all the better.
I would definitely grow a bamboo that stayed this color.

Ryan, was it this color as soon as the sheaths fell off? Or, did it develop over time?

I think of that color being associated with cool temps at the right time in the shooting and it almost always fades - green cane forms also do this sometimes now that I think about it...I recall some yellow groove that kept a hint of it permanently.

It seems that this was the color that showed the entire time.

The Dallas, TX weather has been crazy thus far. It seems that we have gone right into summer without any Spring time temps.

I will keep documenting the color pattern and growth to see what happens.

Thanks for the help with upsizing the image. I am just getting my feet wet on this site. Hopefully, I can contribute to the community.
Just getting into the hobby this year and have 9 different boos. Got the "itch" really quick!

Here is a reddish spectabilis, as mentioned above. It would be nice if it stayed that way, but I doubt it will.

Hi, ryanalan, and welcome to the forum! Watch out for that bamboo "itch," once you have the fever I'm not sure there's any hope for a cure, not that you'll want one! I have a bad case of it myself, really only started in 2010 and have over 80 bamboo forms!

It may be somehow climate specific if not many people see this a lot, but here I see a bit of a red blush on most yellow-culmed forms' new culms, as well as a blackish blush on many green forms (I suspect this is exactly the same pigmentation only appearing darker on green culms). Most of the time it goes away.

Have fun with your boos and here on the forum! There are lots of knowledge-able folks here that have been a great help to me in my boo adventures so far!
