P. Vivax Auerocaulis
This shoot finally lost its sheaths. The green stripes go completely around the node shown below:

Wow, that's great looking. What height do you expect it to get, Brian.

RE: P. Vivax Auerocaulis
Mikein53-Its a little over a half inch. Very large size-up from last year. Its now...3 years old. After seeing needmore's Auerocaulis I would expect this culm to surpass 15 feet. But much less than 20.
Here are some other pictures that I am going to post. All are of different species:
Hibano. Tranquillans Shiroshima:

Great pics! Thanks for sharing. I should try to get more on myself. 'Robert Young' just started shooting here a week ago, looks like I may have some nice ones.
RE: P. Vivax Auerocaulis
Brian,
Nice shots of the new culms.
Last year my largest vivax were 1.2 inches in diameter (measured with a string and geometry at waist height) but only topped out at 13-16ft. So if you get 15ft from a .5 inch culm that is very impressive, at least from my experience with vivax.

What is the guestimate for max height, in a location such as LindianaK.

I know over 15'.
(But what will it be in 10-15 years when the grove is mature?) was what I was suggesting.

Those are some nice shoots there. As far as height goes. only speculation mind you but i would assume that based on our zone i would guess 30 ft. to be the max for us. it's the dia. of the culm that means more to me personally. so that is the big ?....

OH! ha, sorry I really dont know the final height. My "grove" is 3-4 years old. I dont think Needmore can say a max height either. Plus, he planted his next to his house trying to get larger culms... -Eastlandia
And The culm looks to have a height of maybe 12-13 feet now that I look at it.

A very curious appearance. Two of my culms of this variety (Phyllostachys vivax 'Aureocaulis'), this season have this crook in their culms:

RE: P. Vivax Auerocaulis
Fantastic. All of my culm sheaths have fallen off of my culms. "grove" is quite larger than last year. Hopefully we can see a size up next year. My 'Auerocaulis' is really spread out. And if I can remember right, that's how needmore's is too. thanks for the pic. -eastlandia
