There is an ancient Chinese tradition of throwing bamboo on fires to keep away evil spirits. There is good reason for this! Steam builds up in the enclosed internodes causing the bamboo to explode like a stick of dynamite. A grove of bamboo on fire is a really scary thought!

Off hand I would expect at least some of the rhizomes to survive based on bits and pieces I've read elsewhere.

It does produce a firecracker sort of event.

Yes, in the past. It was like a flash fire it traveled so fast. It was started from a neighbor burning. It killed off many of the culms but the grove looks good now.

Hopefully you recovered from his homeowner's insurance policy (or him if he was so careless to not have insurance)
