Hi,

I am a new member of the Forum.

I live in the UK, just outside greater London.
I would suppose I am in Zone 7. But I am in a new developement which is semi-rural, and it can get cold here compared to some neighbouring areas. My record was 2 winters ago. It dipped to -14*C for 3 nights in a row and was about -10*C for another week or so.

I have grown various Bamboos off and on for about 6 years.

Looking forward to chatting here.

Thanks
Sirius

Welcome to the forum Sirius! We have several members from the UK so feel free to join right in. Are you currently growing bamboo?

Regards,

David

welcome. My mom is from and currently living in London. From what I've read from Mark J., Moso can grow pretty good in the U.K. I wouldn't have thought that, but I know the winters are usually milder. Not counting this year.

Thanks for the welcome.

I am currently growing Fargesia nitida, Fargesia rufa, Pleio pygmaeum, the Chinese one with the swollen nodes (can't remember the name off hand), and an unknow spp.(I will post a photo soon for help with id).

I will be looking to add a few more species over the summer.

Yup, that's it.
Couldn't think of the name off hand.

Mine is in a pot. I have read that they are very rampant.
Is that true?

Mine is looking a bit sad in the pot.
I do think it would be better in the ground. Don't want it taking over though!

Mine was bought in the fall as a 1 gal size and hasn't done anything yet. It will graduate to an old bunk feeder when it fills up a 5 gal pot. I already have to deal with an escaped Semiarundinaria yashadake 'Kimmei' that wants to take over the world.
