Phyllostachys violascens culms/shoots

Post by OKbamboo »

Like I said these shoots/culms are like 3 weeks old, you can see the size by the fence in the background. This years culms have the powdery residue.

Is there any purple or cream striping on the older culms in this clone you have?

Striping seems to be minimal if any at all. That may be due to the fact that the mother culm and those of recent years are pretty much in what I would call fairly deep shade. This years shoots are moving out to areas where they will have more sunlight. Which could be a factor.
Now this is for those in the backyard.

There is another patch of violascens out on five acres that receives more direct sun. That group of culms seems to have a little more striping, though faint, and not as deep of green culm.

Nice looking shoots. Your P. Aureosulculata looks good also.
