Fred,

Do you remember the source of your plant? I'll go look at mine. Glauca + Kwang would make an interesting plant!

No signs of it on my 'Yunzhu' which I got from Brad.

Not a lot of spots on the culms either. Very minimally Yunzhu-y. Has a beautiful form though -- was just admiring it yesterday from my neighbor's yard. He had a better view of it than I do.

Mine came from Bamboo Garden in Oregon. Looks like the plant is going to survive. Rgds

My glauca 'Yunzhu' is also flowering on previous years culms, but not the new culms. I got it from Bamboo Plantation. Let's see now that's Ps. japonica, Ph elegans, Ph. kwangsiensis, and now Ph. glauca 'Yunzhu'. The glauca and kwang appear to be at about the same stage of flowering perhaps we will end up with some bamboo love children. 8)

Are we seeing more than the usual amount of flowering recently? Admitedly I only have one species in flower at the moment.

Are people ging to be collecting any of these seeds? I've had great luck with Fargesia nitida seeds from last summer, and am keen to try large scale trails of any seed that people may be willing to spare this summer!

The Fargesia seedlings will be planted out next spring!

Yungzhu bottom line - no flowers on newer culms, flowering only on older culms . No seeds developed. Flowers were replaced with new branch and leaf growth. Plant was not impacted negatively by the flowering process. Ditto on my elegans. My nitida (generation 1) continues to spread with no sign of flowering. The only negative impact re flowering that I have encountered (since 1994) has been a F. adpressa. Rgds

I'm seeing some flowering on my Phy. glauca 'Yunzhu' now. It's only a few of the smaller culms, but they look like this year's. :(

How about you Brad?

One tiny branchlett on one branch looks suspicious to me so perhaps mine is about to start. Figures, it got to about 25 feet with one culm this year.

Flowers definitely coming again on the same culms that had them last summer, and it may be all over the plant. I can't tell yet if those are regular leaf buds or flower buds all over. Should know pretty soon.

Interesting that one of flower buds looks like a branch -- it's as thick as the culm it's on (pretty thin) and 4" long already. Very strange.
