Lancet, nice pics & link yet I'm a bit skeptical about the ID as Nigra? The largest Phyllostachys I've seen there is about 6 feet tall although I suspect that upslope M'aui with cool nights may well grow it much larger AND I did see what looked like a sulcus in 1 of the pics. What has me confused are the persistent culm leaves that combined with the long-views of the forest sure looks like Tootsik to me, plus that is where the Tootsik groves are. Some pics had brown coloration like Nigra but one of the new shoot with the culm leaves still attached looked browner than the surrounding culms kind of a quick turn brow isn't it?



Oh well, now I'll have to investigate further, I'm sure that I can come up with a reason to justify a business trip over to check it out

Yeah, I wasn't sure whether it was nigra or not, but thought they were cool pics neverless. I remember you mentioning alot of Tootsik in the region.

I was hoping someday my place would look like that, but shorter and browner.

Just isn't as mountainous as islandboo.
