China Visit: Wanna see some bamboo!

Post by bluesloth »

In a couple weeks I will be visiting China. On the itinerary is Hong Kong and surrounding area, Yangshuo/Guilin area, and Beijing.

I know there will be bamboo here and there throughout our visit. I am wondering if anyone has been there and knows of any particularly amazing displays of bamboo in any of these locations.

I really want to find some nice bamboo forests to walk through. I imagine the Yangshuo area would have some, but am not sure.

Any China experiences?

Sorry to say after living in Hong Kong for 5 years and visiting Peking I cannot help with Bamboos as it was pre my interest in the subject. But I can reccomend the American Peking Restaurant http://www.fodors.com/miniguides/mgresu ... _id=120738
The waiters are famous for being rude, it took four and half years of going there before they shook my hand, it was a proud moment for me  .
If you know anyone in Hong Kong who is a member of the China Club ,then force them to take you there to eat, the best Peking Duck in Hong Kong.
Good luck with the trip and keep us informed of any Boos you come across , plus pics please.
Later

I'll post some pics when I get back if I run into any interesting bamboo displays.

Too bad I don't know my species too well because I will probably post something I think is really unique and one of you experts will be thinking, "well thats just common _____."

Should be a fun trip, though. So much history, as well as the current cultural and political curiosities.

Hey Blue sloth,
How'd the trip go? I'd love to see some pics of it over there if you have the time to post em.
I'll be heading to Nayarit, Mexico in June and hope to take some pics too!

A little late, but here are a few pics from my China visit. Not too many good bamboo pictures, but that wasn't the reason for my visit.

All the scafolding in Hong Kong is done with bamboo, even the high rises.
