Source for Red (or other) Mulberry Trees

Post by oZmonKey »

Google isn't helping me much today.
I'm looking for Red or other types of mulberry trees, medium to large size, shipped to northern Virginia.

I see TyTy, Aarons Farm (website looks frightfully similar to TyTY), and NatureHills.com.

Both TyTy and Aarons list a Mystic Red Mulberry (no latin name) which the rest of the internet is silent about, hence my mistrust.
Aarons also lists other types of mulberry trees with other custom names such as Whitey White and Superberry Black.

Can anyone provide a better source, or any experience with Aarons or NatureHills? Or "Mystic Red, Whitey White, or Superberry Black"?

Miller Nurseries lists white mulberry only -- I wouldn't hesitate to order from them.

This site lists it by its latin name. I never bought threes from them though.

This place has them cheap in high numbers:

I would plant the native species of red mulberry, as the white is from Asia and replacing red mulberry in many places.
Happy trails...

Good point about native vs. white. I've got one of both (both volunteers) and although the white produces way more berries, its a weedier tree -- at least in my yard.

Aaron's Farm is part of TyTy, don't order from them!!!
Southern Indiana.
My Bamboo List.

The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.

I grew up with an assumed native mulberry tree in south east Texas. I didn't know there were so many different kinds until I researched.
I don't know if the one I am familiar with was rubra or microphylla, but I'm guessing rubra.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulberry

The following species are generally accepted:

Morus alba L. – White Mulberry (E Asia)
Morus australis Poir. – Chinese Mulberry (SE Asia)
Morus celtidifolia Kunth (Mexico)
Morus insignis (S America)
Morus mesozygia Stapf – African Mulberry (S and C Africa)
Morus microphylla – Texas Mulberry (Mexico, Texas (USA))
Morus nigra L. – Black Mulberry (SW Asia)
Morus rubra L. – Red Mulberry (E N America)

Yeah, most states have their own tree nursery that sells to the people. Some even sell out of state to help bring in more money. I used to order from Ohio one until they closed down because weren't bringing in enough money. I was going to suggest you look at Missouri one because they sell out of state and have red mulberry, but checked your state and has that. :santa:
