Brugmansia Flowers

Post by Samajax »

Another plant that was assisted by our lack of hard freeze during the winter of 2011-12.

These Brugmansia flowers are over a foot long from the branch. Not really a great Texas plant- it's a real water sucker, drooping down at the first hint of dryness, but what a bloom. As many of you might know, it's the South American version of Datura, and has psychoactive properties....

Yeah, every new generation that reads Carlos Castaneda think they can go on a "trip", trying to walk that fine line between visions and death.

There are stories in Brazil about the use of brugmansia to correct the behaviors of unruly teens. The adults give the teens a tea from the leaves and when they are on the trip, the ancestors come to the teens in visions and set them straight....Better than grounding?

Its been used like that for thousands of years. I do believe Datura is more potent though. IIR, they were both used my meso american cultures as a right of passage for young men. The dose is VERY random, which is why there are always poisonings, even by "seasoned" users of the stuff.

THen there is the whole different reasons for usage. Kids these days take things as such, just to trip out and escape, while meso american cultrues of the past used them as gateways to their gods, spiritual growth, and insight.
