Iguazu falls is made up of 272 individual falls. This is a subtropical forest area abt 200 ft above sea level. The falls are on the Iguazu river and flow over basalt rock deposited by ancient volcanos.
Trees in this zone are not as high as tropical forests so more sunlight reaches the ground. This allows for many types of shrubs to grow close to ground. Bamboo does well in this area. A type of Chusquea
that I could not identify seems to grow everywhere.
Chusquea
Island with a large grove of bamboo - unknown species
unknown identity
Large diameter (some abt 8 inch) Most dead?

Re: Iguazu Falls Argentina
Thanks for the photos, we considered going to that area last year. So those Chusquea are fall shooters?

Miles of catwalks so you can get upfront & personal with the falls.
Brad - Best to go this time of year (end of summer). Temps are good, little rain, local kids are in school (fewer people). Recommend going to both the Argentina & Brazilian side of the falls plus take the boat ride to the edge of the falls for a thrill. Also, take in the lake country and glaciers in Patagonia. There are so many chusquea plants plus perfect climate that I would guess they are shooting 6 or 7 months a year. We worked thru a company that sets up individual tours - guides at each location, take care of internal flights, airport pickup/delivery, etc.
Native bamboo in Argentina: Chusquea's - andina, culeou. deficiens, iorentziana, ramosissima, tenella, valdiviensis. Guadua's: chacoensis. paraguayana, trinii. Other: Colanthelia rhizantha, Merostacys cllausenii, Rhipidocladum racemiflorum.
