Probably over 200 seed, but I did it in June, so I had about 10% germinate. Maybe the rest will arise next spring. The ones I planted in pots in 65F degrees had 90% germination or so. But some of those dampened off.

Ahhh well.... Growing from seed is a noble endeavor.
And the worse your germination rates the more noble your endeavor comes, it seems.

Of course, it may just be that I had too much sake with my sushi tonight. I seriously did just get back from the sushi bar. Thats where I realized how tuna probably got its nickname of "chinese mahogany".

They weren't so happy about the winter. I noticed most of the top growth is fried. We shall see if they decide to arise from the base........

Survival of the fittest is in full effect. All the mahogany died to the ground, but around 5 survived and are growing back. Its kind of like how I planted a pound of Pterocarya stenoptera seed, and had over hundred come up, but only one survived the winter.

About a week ago I discovered what I believe to be a Pterocarya fraxinifolia (Caucasian Wingnut) seedling. The only reason there is some doubt is that it came up in the Passiflora lutea germination tray, though it is very possible I got crossed up and planted them in the tray by mistake.

Anyway, the seedling isn't a P. lutea, so unless the soil was contaminated before packaging, it has to be a Caucasian Wingnut!

Hmmm...We are now under a Godless Commie Tornado Watch, conditions are right for Godless Commie Tornadoes.
