RE: Major Relocation Project: 7b/8a to 6b

iandad, I'm in the same boat here in Pittsburgh. They're breaking ground on my house today/tomorrow pending monsoon and I won't have time to plant until spring with a close date of mid-December. The builder gave me the OK to put all I want near the treeline behind my (soon to be) property. I plan on...

RE: Major Relocation Project: 7b/8a to 6b

I vote for windowless garage with grow lights. Out of the cold wind is the key here and buried pots don't protect the foliage. I don't think that the lighting needs to be too intense, just enough to keep them alive. I only have to water my hoophouse plants 3-4 times all winter as they don't dry out ...

RE: Major Relocation Project: 7b/8a to 6b

Iandad, I would try to dig one hole in the backyard to fit all the pots together, whether bamboo, maples, or what ever else you were not able plant by the end of October; and then cover them temporarily with soil. You are going to have to spend time setting up lights and watering the plants more oft...

Major Relocation Project: 7b/8a to 6b

OK, wanna try and relocate as many as possible to Gettysburg, PA. Here's a partial list, mostly in three to twenty gallon black plastic nursery buckets: Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Yellow Groove' Phyllostachys bambusoides 'Castillon' Phyllostachys nigra 'Henon' Phyllostachys nigra Phyllostachys viri...

P. Aurea rhizome growth

In the last week I have planted 10 single culm divisions of P. Aurea. the culms are from 1/2 to 1 inch in diameter and I am in zone 7b. I'm wondering if I will get rhizome growth this year and if so, how soon and how long. I haven't dug my pruning trench yet and the plants are about 6 feet ...

I am in zone 7b.
I grow a number of different Phyllostachys sp., and I have found that Ph. aurea is a more aggressive runner than most.

Newbie question

Is it realistic to think that I can control P. Aurea with an open trench and rhizome pruning? Is P. Aurea harder to control than other phyllostachys?
I am in zone 7b.

Parvifolia in the third year. First year in container, the last 2 years at this place. Here ( Germany NRW 7b ) Parvifolia is fast growing. But it is very invasive too. It already takes about 20m?. Klaus-Peter Nice looking plant. After a slow start mine now has shoots that are ...

... it's vigorous growth, but more to the fact that the birds eat the berries and carry the seeds far and wide. From what I have observed in our Sone 7B climate, the first year seedlings emerge late in the season, and do not tend to survive the winter here, unless they happen to germinate in a protected ...
